By India Today Sports Desk: Delhi Capitals' batting unit capitulated in the first innings against SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday, 24 April, after opting to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Delhi side were only able to put up 144/9 at the end of the 20 overs against Aiden Markram's team, majorly due to their poor shot selection.

Delhi had a poor start to the day, losing Phil Slat in the first over of the game, a wicket that DC failed to recover from. Captain David Warner found start, but lost his wicket in the seventh over of the match. This was the downfall of DC in the first innings, as they tried to hit Washington Sundar out of the park. Delhi lost a total of three wickets in the over, which helped Washington Sundar finish with the figures of 3/28 from his four overs.

Sundar, however, was not the best bowler on the day, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to his fantastic best, picking up 2 wickets for just 11 runs from his four overs. Kumar's exploits at the start and the end of the innings helped SRH keep DC in check on Monday evening.

SRH fielding coach/scout Hemang Badani spoke on the sidelines in the middle of the first innings and said that he was quite surprised that Delhi opted to bat first in the game. Warner had come at the toss and said that the wicket looked to have an even shine. Warner's views came in contrast with Badani and SRH captain Aiden Markram, who said that they had their plans set to bowl first in the game.

"Delhi Capitals helped us by batting first. Anyway we had plans in place to bowl first the game," Badani said during the first innings.

From SRH, only Marco Jansen turned out to be expensive on the day, leaking 27 runs from 2 overs.
